GRID: Autosport mechanical & collision car damage detailed in new update

GRID: Autosport developer Codemasters has discussed the racer’s new mechanical and collision-based damage system in a new update. It seems that vehicles will be at the mercy to general wear and tear on top of those high-impact shunts and pile-ups.

Over on the Codemasters blog, GRID: Autosport’s damage mechanic was outlined in full, starting with general wear-and-tear, which will see your car’s individual parts lose performance over time.

The studio wrote, “gearbox damage will build up every time you change gear, while over-revving and shifting at the wrong time, (primarily in manual gears), will cause the gearbox to accrue damage more quickly. Once the gearbox is damaged, shift times will start to increase and a failure to address your driving style will cause a damaged gearbox to eventually start to skip gears.

“Brakes will also be affected. Repetitive high speed, late braking will eventually cause your brakes to fade quicker than if you use a more gradual approach.”

Collisions will also have an impact on how your car performs, and applies to the vehicle’s wheels, engine and suspension.

Damage inflicted on your wheels will cause the car to pull away to either side, and it’s possible for tyres to become punctured then blow out.

Engine damage is broken down further into four sub-categories:
  • Radiator – This will cause the engine to overheat
  • Turbo – A damaged turbo will cause the engine to lose power
  • Exhaust – Damage to the exhaust will see a small amount of power loss, however if it falls off there is significant power loss
  • Engine – a damaged engine will have a big reduction in performance

Finally, suspension damage will result in your car exerting more roll, making it less-precise and unstable.
