Unreal Engine 4 gets PS4, Project Morpheus support

Great news from team Epic: Unreal Engine 4.1, the latest incarnation of the developer's storied game engine, now supports PlayStation 4 development at no additional charge to registered PlayStation developers. That includes support for Project Morpheus, Sony's upcoming virtual reality headset.

With the new Unreal Engine 4.1 update, Epic has added console support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at no additional cost, making Unreal Engine 4 “the only commercially available engine that allows developers to deploy games across video game consoles, PC, Mac, SteamOS, mobile and web, as well as for VR experiences on the Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus.”

  • Here’s the important update notes for PS4 and Xbox One support in Unreal Engine 4.1:
  • Full support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!
  • Engine source for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is available to subscribers who are registered developers with Microsoft or Sony, respectively.
  • For now, deploying projects to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One requires compiling source from GitHub using a Windows computer.
