Project Cars aims for authenticity on PS4

Slighty Mad Studios will give players the freedom to drive how they want in the kind of cars they want in its upcoming racing game Project Cars, according to a post on the PlayStation Blog.

The core driving experience for Project Cars, Slight Mad says, will be the "most authentic on the planet." To that end, the game includes a time of day and weather system, as well as various online and community features like time trials and competitive multiplayer. To bolster the authenticity of the racing experience, Slightly Mad took thousands of reference photos of real-world tracks, recorded height information, and performed "laser scans." In addition, real drivers like Ben Collins and Nicolas Hamilton played early versions of Project Cars and provided feedback, Slightly Mad says.

Project Cars launches this November for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Wii U. Slightly Mad has previously described the game as the "most technically advanced racing game on the planet." More details about the game's cars and tracks, as well as career and online modes, will be shared in the future.

The game also is one of the first PS4 games to use Sony's virtual reality headset, Project Morpheus. "Finally, you're going to really feel what it's like sitting in the driving seat of a high performance machine as you look around the cockpit, glance left and right as you overtake an opponent, and get an exhilarating sense of speed as you scream down the finishing straight," the studio said. More information about Project Morpheus support for Project Cars will be announced later.
